The Dune Slack to the south side of the 3rd tee has been cleared of invading scrub and mown since 1966 to improve conditions for the scarce wetland wildlife found on the dunes. Plants such as MARSH PENNYWORT, YELLOW RATTLE and the orchids MARSH HELLEBORINE, EARLY MARSH and SOUTHERN MARSH are now found here.
To the left of the 3rd fairway MARRAM GRASS has been planted to restore the natural
Dune environment and golfing ‘links’ character. This is one of the areas where the tall fern-like fronds of WILD ASPARAGUS can be found. This is an escape from traditional local cultivation on the sefton coast.
PIPISTRELLE BATS hunt at night for invertebrate prey over the scrub and grassland edge of the 4th hole. These uncommon animals roost during the day in houses near the course.
