To the right of the 5th fairway, a Dune Slack has been brought under conservation management. This damp grassy hollow is home to the purple flowered and strongly aromatic WATERMINT; GRASS-OF-PARNASSUS – a flower with long stalked oval leaves and white petals; and three species of orchids.
FROGS, SMOOTH NEWTS and COMMON TOADS spawn in the pond on the right of the 5th hole. This is also home to Damselflies such as the GREEN EMERALD, BLUE TAILED and AZURE. MOORHEN and COOT nest in the marginal vegetation.
Left of the 6th hole, the FIXED DUNE HABITAT is an example of a European Priority Habitat. All sand dunes habitats are important at the European level, but these fixed ‘grey’ dunes are listed as of special importance in the European Community Habitats Directive. The golf courses of the Sefton Coast make a vital contribution to the conservation of this important habitat.
