Links Cup 2011

On the 20^th July 2011, 28 golfers arrived at Royal Birkdale in the hope of winning the coveted Links Cup Trophy.

The tournament has been going now for a number of years as a thank you to all sponsors and partners who have contributed to the clubs Yearbook.

The weather was very kind to the participating players as the previous few days had seen some heavy rain dampen the course and slow down the greens.

The players arrived to a fine chicken soup and sandwiches before they took to the course in slightly overcast but warm and dry conditions.

Some good golf was being played during the day with Mike Reed from Absolute Media A getting 7 birdies and an eagle as well as nearly getting a hole in one at the closest the pin hole 14. Also playing good golf was Mike Brown from Clariant Oil Services who was finding the par 3’s to his liking with a number of birdies. The longest drive was won by David Jeanrenauo of Michael Halsall Solicitors with a truly stunning drive down the middle of 18.

A number of the teams enjoyed a cold beer outside the clubhouse while watching the remaining players finish in glorious sunshine before changing in to suits for the dinner and prize presentation.

The captain of the winning team Rob McNeill said “What a wonderful day! We are very pleased to retain our trophy!”

1^st Fletcher McNeill/D. M Robinson – 86 points (43 points on back 9)

2^nd Investec – 86 points (41 points on the back 9)

3^rd Henderson Homes – 83 points

4^th Absolute Media A – 81 points

5^th Absolute Media B – 78 points

6^th Michael W Halsall Solicitors - 76 points

7^th Clariant Oil Services– 75 points
